The Fredericksburg Area Museum and Spotsylvania Public Schools invite families from all school districts to a special History on Wheels Pop up Learning Lab. Bring the whole family to explore FAM’s exhibits in a new light.
Families will learn about local history through interactive hands-on activities and gallery guides. This special event welcomes all families and offers bilingual support to ensure everyone can enjoy the experience. History at Wheels Pop-Up Learn Lab occurs on the second Saturday of the month between 10:00am – 11:30am.

African American Leaders: (February 8th): Leaders come in all different shapes and sizes! Come learn about local African American leaders from business owners to doctors to teachers. Families will create their own protest signs inspired by the 1960 Fredericksburg sit-ins.
Women Revolutionaries (March 8th): Discover stories of local women who made a difference from the American Revolution to today. Families will create maps inspired by Gladys West, a local mathematician who revolutionized GPS technology.
Freedom Stories (April 12th): Hear the stories of the 10,000 enslaved people who crossed the Rappahannock River to freedom in 1862. Families will make their own emancipation quilt to honor these stories.
Living Legacies Sneak Peak (May 10th): Families will get an exclusive sneak peak of FAM’s upcoming African American history exhibit Living Legacies before it opens May 30th. Working together, families will create their own museum exhibits about their family’s history.
This program is free and open to all families. Please note that this is not a school-sponsored event. Attendance is completely optional, and families will be responsible for transportation, supervision, and any associated costs. However, we wanted to pass along this fantastic opportunity and hope you and your family plan on attending.
