The Fredericksburg Area Museum is thrilled to announce the launch of our Community Support Campaign for Living Legacies: African American History in the Fredericksburg Area (2025)—a groundbreaking exhibition honoring the rich history, resilience, and contributions of Fredericksburg’s African American community.

With your help the Living Legacies exhibit, and associated programming, will launch on May 30th. The project will illuminate powerful stories of resistance and community building, brought to life through a new multi-year exhibit, community storytelling, digital experiences, and dynamic programming.

Your support will directly fund:

  • Interactive exhibit elements that connect the past to the present.
  • Community programming that fosters dialogue and learning.
  • comprehensive exhibition catalogue to preserve these stories for the future.

Special Benefits for Supporters:

  • A gift of $50 or more OR a recurring gift of $10 per month gets your name added to the community thank you wall in our exhibit.
  • Any gift of $50 or more includes a complimentary membership to the Fredericksburg Area Museum as our way of saying thank you!
  • Donors who commit to recurring monthly gifts will be entered into a special drawing at the end of Black History Month to win one of two incredible prizes:
    • Two free seats on a private tour this summer with Dr. Gaila Sims to the National Museum of American History.
    • free original work of art by Dr. Gaila Sims herself.

This exhibit is more than history—it’s a movement to deepen our community’s understanding of its roots and the contributions that shape its future. Be part of this transformative journey and help us make it a reality.
